mbuono
This interview was originally recorded for the Fall 2017 session of GSLIS 777: Planning and Delivering Young Adult Services. It features librarians from the Teen Services department of the Sachem Public Library talking about Desteenation, one of their teen rooms. As you will hear in the interview, the space was designed for primarily entertainment purposes and with heavy use in mind.
The librarians of the teen services department, led by Laura Panter, are focused on providing both entertainment and educational services to the teens and parents of the Sachem community. Desteenation is emblematic of their work to create fun, enriching experiencing in a safe environment for the teens. The pride these individuals take in their profession and their community is obvious, and the challenges they have had to deal with serve as good lessons for the rest of us when building a teen services space.
